Fireworks: The pattern fill layer style works great… as long as you want that horrible bubble pattern and only that.
Seriously has anyone even tested this shit? Didn’t the person putting that interface together realise that maybe you would need to select a different pattern?

Photoshop and Fireworks: Drag a layer from Photoshop to Fireworks, GOODBYE ALPHA CHANNEL! Thanks Fireworks and the Photoshop teams, I FUCKING LOVE SAVING LOADS OF PNGs TO MY DESKTOP JUST TO PRESERVE A FUCKING ALPHA CHANNEL.

Flash: So Flash won’t show the font you want to use, so you try and trick it by copying and pasting the text in the font from Fireworks to Flash and this is what you get.
Bravo Flash team, just when my expectations for your work have reached rock bottom, you manage to dig your hole even deeper. I’m so fucking happy you spent time on stupid shit like the deco brush (who the hell artworks in Flash?) and that IK engine (runs so choppy no one uses it) instead of making something as basic as fonts work in your complete joke of a program.

Big assed post about Fireworks
Jon Hicks on his love/hate relationship with Fireworks.
Now I didn’t use Fireworks until I started a job where we used it about 2 years ago, but now I’ve got used to it I really have no idea how people can do screen design in Photoshop all day, its clunky as fuck for web design even with its vector tools and smart objects.
Don’t get me wrong its awesome for Photo manipulation and art working, but for laying out websites with forms, buttons etc its a complete nightmare. Oh and thats even when working with tidy designers, work with someone who can’t name layers and its a fucking nightmare. Most Photoshop users never realise this though because Fireworks seems so clunky at first glance that you only ever learn how to use it if your boss basically forces you into it because he can’t use Photoshop.
Basically Fireworks could be a game changer, it just needs a sensible rewrite by a talented team, needs to stop pretending to be some developer tool for mocking up AIR integrated RIA buzzword drenched shit. I mean really Adobe couldn’t you have invested all the money you wasted on garbage like Photoshop.com, Adobe TV, Adobe Drive, and all that other nonsense and just invested some money in fixing Fireworks’ problems.
tl;dr: Fireworks is a buggy, clunky mess but its still better at doing my job than Photoshop

Thanks Tim

Wonderful aliased font text in Fireworks CS4. It seems they had time to update the UI to use crappy Flash, but they didn’t have time to make the anti-alias text on Mac OS X of all platforms.

Fireworks + Snow Leopard
Install Snow Leopard, Open Fireworks, Expose to reveal desktop, Sigh as the stupid fake palette windows don’t disappear.
No ones even testing this shit are they?
Edit: You can no longer use the eye dropper tool on other windows, it just focuses them instead.
LOOKING FORWARD TO DROPPING £1K ON CS5 TO GET THIS BASIC FUNCTIONALITY BACK IN A FEW MONTHS
I’m guessing by “testing” the Adobe team means “opened the program, drew a few boxes, wrote a bit of text, saved and loaded a file”oh wait thats exactly what they mean
runs fine with common steps i.e, draw rectangle, convert to movie clip, test movie, save and open file, etc.

Flash panels working great!

Can't tab through these
Fireworks: A whole pile of problems with Fireworks auto shape panels.
1 - Auto Shape preferences not showing up
2 - Menu/Panel inconsistency
3 - You can’t tab forward through these values but you can tab backwards, what the fuck is that about
Thanks Mark

Fireworks: The clunky export panel gets confused about what document it was told to export, lets file this under “Why the tabbed interface was the worst part of CS4”
Thanks Colin
